SAUCY JACK AND THE SPACE VIXENS
“MANICALLY FUNNY PLAY CAMPS IT UP IN OUTER SPACE”
Amanda Hooton, The Scotsman
Obsidian Theatre in association with Standing Room Only Productions is excited to bring the cult spectacular, SAUCY JACK AND THE SPACE VIXENS, to Houston audiences July 13th-August 5th. With a book and lyrics by Charlotte Mann and Michael Fidler, and music by Jonathan Croose and Robin Forrest, this unique musical was born at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 1995 and has celebrated a mass cult following around the world ever since. This disco-fueled musical extravaganza is a celebration of glam rock and intergalactic camp and is sure to be the not-to-be-missed event of the summer.
As the audience settles back for an evening of cosmic cabaret, all is not well at Saucy Jack’s...the evil shadow of a serial killer looms over the divey bar; cabaret acts are being killed off one by one, found stabbed by the heel of a sequinned slingback shoe – something the enigmatic bar owner Saucy Jack considers bad for business. One by one, the audience meets the eccentric bar patrons and employees – the wide eyed waitress Booby Shevalle, willing bartender Mitch Maypole, talented musician Sammy Sax, space smuggler Chesty Prospects and wacky Dr. Von Whackoff. Luckily, the Space Vixens arrive to investigate the Slingback Killer. Part diva, part super hero, the Space Vixens are all women, and champions of justice, whiskey and disco!
Saucy Jack and the Space Vixens was born at the famed Internation Fringe Festival in Edinburgh, Scotland, enjoyed numerous awards and has celebrated runs all over the world. Obsidian Theater and the award winning team that brought you American Idiot, Hedwig and the Angry Inch, Silence! The Musical and Passing Strange brings this glam-disco-cyberpunk pageant to the heart of the Houston Heights.
