About ECHO

The Energy Corridor of Houston Orchestra (ECHO) serves the Energy Corridor and surrounding areas. ECHO is led by conductor Michael Fahey. We are dedicated to the enhanced appreciation and understanding of orchestral music in the Energy Corridor in Houston and the surrounding communities. We seek to share musical experiences through public concerts, educational programs and private events that will strengthen the community.

ECHO was founded in 2014 by musician Sarah Plunkett, who grew up in the Energy Corridor area of West Houston and realized that although the area is a great place to live and work, and includes numerous eating, shopping, and recreation opportunities, there was a dearth of “culture” – no opportunities to perform or listen to live classical music. After obtaining Mr. Fahey’s enthusiastic agreement to serve as Conductor/Musical Director, Ms. Plunkett approached the leadership of The Energy Corridor District, who have been strong supporters and partners of ECHO since its inception.

In its first season, ECHO’s membership grew to over sixty musicians, many of whom live and/or work in the Energy Corridor area. Some of these members are professional musicians, including a number of music educators representing at least six different Houston-area school districts. Other members are amateur musicians, who are elated to have an opportunity to perform and play with others. Our players include professionals in fields such as engineering, geology, marketing and optometry, and work at businesses in the energy industry including BP America, C&J Energy Services, Citgo, ExxonMobil, Halliburton, Jacobs, PGS, Schlumberger and Shell. ECHO’s close ties to Houston’s energy industry will contribute to building a community partnership.

ECHO is pleased to recognize the generosity of our Gold Baton Sponsor for the season,  Sloan & Moyer LLP.  SloanMoyer is a law firm located in Houston’s Energy Corridor which offers services in the areas of business law and estate planning.

ECHO is a 501(c)(3) organization.

About Sarah Plunkett

Sarah Plunkett is the founder and president of ECHOrchestra. She leads ECHO in its business operations and also performs with the orchestra as one of its flute players. Sarah holds a B.A. in Music Performance from Denison University, Granville, OH, and in 2010 she graduated with her M.M. in Flute Performance from Ithaca College in Ithaca, NY. She teaches flute privately in the Houston area and freelances on the side.

About Michael Fahey

Michael Fahey is ECHO’s Conductor/Musical Director. He has been the Director of Orchestras at Stratford High School since 2006 and Chairman of the Fine Arts Department beginning this year. Under his leadership, the Orchestras have continued a thirty year tradition of musical excellence at UIL, Region and State-wide competition. Under Fahey's direction the 2011 Stratford Playhouse Orchestra was chosen "Best Orchestra" at that year's Tommy Tune Awards. In 2012 Mr. Fahey was honored at Jones Hall as the Houston Symphony’s Educator of the Year. He is a professional violinist and has performed with the Theatre Under The Stars Orchestra for fourteen years as well as with the Houston Latin American Philharmonic Orchestra. He is in demand as a guest clinician and UIL judge at orchestra competitions across the state.
