In 2017 Lil Ugly Mane continues to push forward in the swamp of underground hip hop by skimming across the top with an air boat.

By teaming up with fellow artists Antwon and Wiki to form the group Secret Circle whose bubble is bound to swell soon. With tracks like “SATELLITE prod by Shawn Kemp”, “Tube Socks”, and “Tonka Truck prod by Left Brain (formerly of odd future)” they are a force to be reckoned with already on a Canada tour with only four songs released as a unit they are definitely on their grind, they have a vision and all we can do is watch them create it.

I don't think there's a way to fully understand the mass of what Lil Ugly Mane is doing.  I don’t think at this moment it's possible to see the full scope of what his impact on hip hop is, because quite frankly he's still an underground artist and he's purposely maintained that status by staying shy of the spotlight. You never saw his face until 2-3 years after Mista Thug Isolation dropped and with so many aliases it almost seems like he doesn't want to be found and is uninterested in fame. At one point he even claimed that he would scrap the Lil Ugly Mane project as a whole but that doesn't seem to have happened.

Maybe he will see the fruits of his labor beginning to show. His elusiveness even extends to social media, in which he is almost non existent with no Instagram or Twitter his only form of social outlet is Facebook, search for “Lil Ugly Mane”.

Lil Ugly Mane continues to push the boundaries of music and what can be perceived as music from behind a mask like the phantom of the opera waiting until his time is up.

Lil Ugly

Malik W.

In 2012 I was ending my junior year of high school and music was booming there was all different kind of underground artist coming out of the woodworks, it was the beginning stages of SoundCloud. Things were really heating up musically.

Out of all the music, one of the artist who stood out amongst the masses was Lil Ugly Mane. A friend had shown me a song and I was hooked, Ugly dropped his debut album “Mista Thug Isolation” at the time I had never heard anything like it, the production felt like the past, present, and the future all a once. Not only was his rapping next level in comparison to the musical climate at the time, when I found out he produced his own beats under the alias, Shawn Kemp, I was hooked.

A rapper/producer is always a lethal combo and Ugly doesn't fall short of greatness when he touches the mic he lets you know the real he lets you know what real life is, no sense of false truths or glorified realities. Sometimes he gives you the reality check you weren't looking for but the one you needed, sometimes he gives you something to vibe out to and chill with.

He makes music that you can live with, music that you can take with you, music you can ride too. Since 2012 he has dropped numerous projects such as “Entertainers Blues For Once Michael Jackson Thriller”, “Three Sided Tape Volume One, Two, & Three ”, “Uneven Compromise”, “Oblivion Access” and “Volume 1: Flick Your Tongue Against Your Teeth and Describe the Present” released under Bedwetter.

Lil Ugly Mane Is the culmination of each alias that came before it, names such as A9Concuss who makes noise tracks, Cat Torso who released a horror movie sound track, Dale Kruegler & The Missing Felicitys with a sound I can only begin to describe as noise.

Jazz is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to Ugly’s musical flexibility. More than a rapper and more than a producer, he is no less than a true musician capable of mastering any musical style.
